Question
How did you get the name Doughbeezy Southeast Beast?

Doughbeezy
I came up with Doughbeezy when I first decided I really wanted to start rapping. I was going by Doughboy at first. That’s what everybody called me – Doughboy. You know, and once I decided I wanted to rap, I just figured it was going to be a million other rappers named doughboy already. People were also calling me Beezy like, “What’s up Beezy” and “Doughbeezy”, you know just playing around with the name. I just felt like that was more catchy and more of a household name, so I just ran with Doughbeezy.

Question
As an artist, which song (including any of yours) has the most impact on you?

Doughbeezy
It’s hard to say. I know my biggest record impact wise is “I’m From Texas”. I think it come from the combination because of the visual that I shot for it, and it actually being a hometown anthem. It was the first anthem I had so that was the most impactful song.

Question
What makes your latest project “King Beezy” different from the others?

Doughbeezy
This truly is the project I put the most effort and energy in to. I spent the most time on it. I actually worked handson with a producer versus doing emails and that type of shit. I actually sat down with Lil’ Ju and curated it the right way. Even down to the mixing and mastering. You know a lot of people nowadays just get their vocals mixed and mastered and shit, but I actually got every instrument and every beat mixed and mastered as well and it definitely took the project to another level. So now that when people hear it, it sonically sounds better. I think the content as well like you still get the witty punchlines and bars, but with this project you actually get real songs and you get deeper content and more conception type records versus the freestyle type you usually hear from me.

Question
What do you plan to accomplish with this new project?

Doughbeezy
With this project I just want to expand my brand outside my own market, you know? I’ve been doing the Texas thing for a long time, but I truly feel like there’s nothing more that can be done here without me growing and moving around. It’s only so much I can do…so many ways I can rep Texas IN Texas you know? What I’m saying is, it’s like shit if I go outside my market I can start planting these seeds and building my fanbase so we can go from local, to regional, to nationwide. That’s the goal.
